Transience permeates this book, and permanence too. The happenstance nature of the connecting threads so are so every-day it could be any one of us caught up in the play of fate. The last two chapters sing out, and serve as lessons in narrative distance: from the claustrophobic and emotional ramblings of what we can only hope is the start of a healing to the cold and distant drift towards obscurity of those at the edge of existence.
Never have blank pages at the end of a novel been so eloquent.
